During sentencing, recorder Greg Bull QC said, “I except a series of unfortunate circumstances which have brought you before me today. Possession of a gas canister like this is considered a serious crime and can cause serious harm to people when used.

“I condemn you on the basis that this particular cartridge was found by an electrician and handed it to you at a time when renovations were being done on your property. You put it aside and you have it. forgotten.

“It was a surprise to you when the police present executed a search warrant. The sensible thing to do would have been to alarm the police.”

Steed was fined £ 500 and court costs £ 425.
