Spot ‘N Friends pet boarding and daycare opening event

A new pet boarding and daycare is hosting a grand opening event this weekend to officially introduce itself to the community.

Spot ‘N Friends Boarding and Daycare will hold the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2680 1st Ave. at Greenley. We are located at the same address as the now closed Pet Inn.

Mary Teglovic-Smith, one of the owners, said the event will include drawing, free nail trims for the dogs, facility tours and two rescues will be in attendance. Rescues will have adoptable dogs and cats.

“Animals have always played a role in my life. They are companions, secret keepers, family members and best friends,” Teglovic-Smith said. “I’ve always been the madwoman stopping traffic to try and save a frightened dog. Watching other people’s pets is something I take seriously. It’s being asked to care for an important member of family and by extension he is part of my family. It gives my clients the security of knowing that we will take care of their pets as they do.

Teglovic-Smith said after Pet Inn and Progressive School for Dogs closed this summer, she wanted to make sure residents had a place to keep their pets or provide more regular enrichment. The establishment has been open since July, but this is the first celebration of its creation.

The daycare is geared towards dogs, but we do offer boarding for dogs and cats. The feline friends stay in a separate building from the dogs to ensure their safety and comfort.

Teglovic-Smith also runs the pet sitting business called Pet’s Best Friend. She has provided the service for more than two decades.

“This opportunity came at a unique time,” Teglovic-Smith said. I called my new business partner, Katie, who has several years of experience running a boarding/daycare center and asked her if she was interested.
