LIHUĒ, Hawai’i (KHON2) – The Kaua’i Humane Society has a lot planned for this year’s holiday season. This is your chance to help animals find homes. Among the programs to be rolled out is the Mission Mainland 2.5 initiative.
KHS is partnering with Kaua`i Community Alliance and together they plan to offer free pet services at Kaua`i Housing Connect events. The first will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at the Salvation Army in Hanapepe and the next will take place at the Salvation Army in Lihuē on Thursday, November 17. You can go there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

KHS will provide many services free of charge: pet vaccinations and microchips, pet food, leashes and collars. They will also endeavor to register people who need castration and sterilization at reduced cost as well as those who may need regular food assistance.
November being Adopt a Senior Pet Month, KHS will waive all adoption fees for senior pets adopted in Kaua’i.
Another program that KHS ventures to do is Mission Mainland 2.5. This program offers 50 locations for Kaua’i pets to adopt on the mainland. Generously sponsored by the DeSantis family, the program will provide $300 for a pet to be transported to the West Coast region or nearby islands. There is also a $500 option for those further east on the mainland who wish to adopt a pet from the Kaua’i Humane Society.
These prices include a leash, collar, travel crate, vaccinations, health certificate, boarding and flight, airport transportation and any transitional food the animal may need.
Thanksgiving is a tough time for shelters because they are closed and animals still need care. KHS sponsors a Home for the Holidays program where you can give a pet a home for the holiday weekend.
According to KHS, “By bringing a pet into your shelter, you are giving that animal far more attention than it would receive at the shelter. KHS will provide participants with all necessary supplies.
Finally, Giving Tuesday arrives on November 29. This is an opportunity for you to provide much-needed financial assistance to all pets in need of a home. KHS said Giving Tuesday is one of the most important fundraising times for nonprofits and donations on that day will help KHS cover its operating costs throughout 2023.
