Free vaccination camp for companion dogs in Kozhikode on December 10

The Livestock Department and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will jointly organize a free vaccination camp named “Saphalyam” for companion dogs in the grounds of the Kozhikode District Veterinary Hospital. December 10.

An adoption camp for the rehabilitation of street dogs will be one of the highlights of the event, which is expected to attract the participation of animal lovers and rescuers from various parts of the neighborhood.

“This is the third such camp that we are organizing in the city mainly to support free vaccination and the adoption of street puppies. Timely rabies vaccination is the first step in complying with updated pet licensing standards, ”said EK Rajeev, one of the event coordinators.

According to the organizers, many pet owners do not pay attention to the vaccination process due to ignorance or unwillingness to pay the vaccination fee. Some owners neglect booster doses and other basic vaccines designed to protect puppies against serious viral illnesses. Optional vaccines will not be distributed at the camp. Free rabies vaccination would be available for dewormed puppies, they added.

People for Animals and Petlife Charitable Trust volunteers will also team up with the Animal Husbandry department to organize the free adoption camp. Arrangements are in place to bring healthy puppies from various shelters on site for adoption.

In order to educate pet owners and dealers about updated policies in the industry, an interactive session can also be organized. Experts representing the breeding department and the SPCA are supposed to manage the sessions and clarify the doubts of the participants.
