Former Multnomah Greyhound Park opens as mass vax site

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The site of the former dog track, Multnomah Greyhound Park, reopened on Sunday – but this time as a temporary site for mass COVID-19 vaccination.

The site, located at 944 Northeast 223rd Avenue in Wood Village, is one of nearly a dozen that the Oregon Health Authority is opening in the state in December. It will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday to Friday.

Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines – along with pediatric boosters and doses – will be offered free of charge and with no insurance needed.

It wasn’t a hard decision for me, I lost a few people so, easy decision. You know, get vaccinated, not just for yourself but for your family and friends, ”said Denise Redman, who was receiving the COVID vaccine.

The OHA has stated that the clinic is low barrier so you do not need to have your ID to get vaccinated, just provide your name and they will register it in the vaccination system of Oregon. Vaccination is free.

Patients do not need an appointment at any of the OHA clinics that will open in December.

OHA officials hosted the opening ceremony on Sunday with members of the Confederate Grand Ronde tribes, who purchased the property six years ago in December 2015.

Multnomah Greyhound Park closed in 2004 and was unused for 12 years until its buildings were demolished in 2016.
