Part a Part b
£ 370 plus veterinary fees based on an hourly rate (including travel time) if required

1 star and 2 star establishments:
£ 217 for a 1 year Licence

3-star and 4-star establishments:
£ 339 for a 2 years Licence

5-star establishments:
£ 461 for a 3 years Licence


Part A covers the application and authorization process. Part B is the cost of administering and enforcing the framework. Both fees must be paid in full (with all veterinary fees) before the license is issued.

Example

A business applying for a home dog boarding license will pay £ 370 for the application (Part A). If they get a 3-year license (5-star establishment), they will pay an additional £ 461 (Part B) to cover the administration of the license, making a total of £ 831. Veterinary fees (if applicable) will be charged on top of this. Whereas a company that obtains a one-year license will pay £ 587.


Setting up a dog boarding home

Part a Part b

Up to and including four host families:
£ 370 plus veterinary fees based on an hourly rate (including travel time) if required

Five or more host families:
Additional £ 64 for each additional host family

1 star and 2 star establishments:
£ 217 for a 1 year Licence
(plus annual veterinary fees based on an hourly rate including travel time)

3-star and 4-star establishments:
£ 339 for a 2 years Licence
(plus annual veterinary fees based on an hourly rate including travel time)

5-star establishments:
£ 461 for a 3 years Licence
(plus annual veterinary fees based on an hourly rate including travel time)

The star rating of a franchise is determined by the star rating of each host family combined.


Horse rental

£ 370 plus veterinary fees for an initial inspection based on an hourly rate (including travel time)

1 star and 2 star establishments:
£ 217 for a 1 year Licence
(plus annual veterinary fees based on an hourly rate including travel time)

3-star and 4-star establishments:
£ 339 for a 2 years Licence
(plus annual veterinary fees based on an hourly rate including travel time)

5-star establishments:
£ 461 for a 3 years Licence

Keep or train animals for the show

All licenses last for three years.

Part a Part B

Dangerous Wild Animals (DWA)

£ 658 for a permit, which must be renewed every two years.

Veterinary fees will be billed in addition to these fees and are based on an hourly rate including travel time.

The fees must be paid in full (along with the veterinary fees) before the license is issued.


Zoos

£ 830 for a license, which must be renewed after the first four years and then after six years for each subsequent license granted.

Veterinary fees will be billed in addition to these fees and are based on an hourly rate determined by DEFRA, including travel time.

The fees must be paid in full (along with the veterinary fees) before the permit is issued.


Other expenses

  • billed at the same rate as new requests as above

Variant requests

  • administrative modification £ 35
  • inspector’s visit (if necessary) £ 78 (in addition to administrative costs)
  • vet fees will be billed (if applicable) on the basis of an hourly rate plus travel time

Request for re-inspection (for all types of permits)

  • £ 137 plus vet fees (if applicable)

Advice and pre-license visit

  • £ 50 initial then additional costs depending on the agent’s time

Additional charge for additional licensed activity provided by a company at a site

  • £ 96 for each additional activity (this is in addition to the appropriate Part A fees and the corresponding Part B fees as above)
