Another person has died in Kerala even after undergoing the full course of rabies vaccine, sending health authorities into turmoil.
Chandrika, 53, from Kozhikode, died a month after receiving the vaccine.
Chandrika was bitten by a stray dog last month after which she underwent the full course of the rabies vaccine. Things seemed to be going well until she complained of being unwell earlier this month and was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College hospital.
After ten days of treatment, she died on Saturday.
State health officials are now working to pinpoint the exact cause of death through proper testing.
Earlier, a 19-year-old girl in Palakkad had died a month after undergoing a full course of rabies vaccine due to a dog bite.
Rabies vaccines are administered free of charge in all public health centers and hospitals, while in private hospitals high fees are levied to complete the prescribed doses.
Questions arise about the effectiveness of vaccines, especially those given free of charge.
State health authorities are reviewing all aspects as Chandrika’s death is analyzed in detail.
